The Devil Hands the Guards Defeat in Atlanta

·

Look, I hate the Braves. Not as much as I hate the Yankees (or Jose Mesa), but I hate them.

I am a full supporter of the Guards rebranding, because it is pretty much the least anyone can do to respect others. The Braves, when they were the Boston Braves, kinda made sense but it still wasn’t really a nice thing since the colonials dressed up like Native Americans and while the argument is that it was to “Side with America,” our modern eyes see the racism.

Frankly it’s not ‘okay’ because we didn’t know back then. The point is we know NOW and now is the time to change.

Also, lets be real here, the old moniker was not ‘honoring’ Sockalexis at all. The old logos were incredibly racist. The fact that Cleveland looked at the nationwide protests over George Floyds’ murder and said “We gotta change” is something I’m proud of.

All of this is to say, for fuck’s sake, Atlanta, rename yourselves!

Series Overview

Apr 10 – Apr 12
GUARDIANS
1
ATL
BRAVES
2

I went into this thinking there was no way the Guards will take a fourth straight series, but also with some general annoyance at Atlanta.

Pre Game, José got a haircut and looks sharp!

  • Manzardo hit his first home run of the season.
  • Kwan is batting around .500 with runners in scoring position which … I’d be happier if he wasn’t the leadoff!
  • Cecconi did well until the 6th, when he deflated with two home runs and a single.

  • Hammy said that all José needed to get a home run against every team (except the Guards) was to get one this weekend. So he did.
  • Messick was insane. The man has no fear, and pitched like a hero.
  • Kwan’s little league run was pretty hilarious. A steal, a wild pitch which was lost, and then an inexplicable throw to third that missed… Badly.

  • You know, it wasn’t a shut out, but it was still a pretty rough game.
  • The Guards need to get better at bringing home runners on base.
  • Hoskins had his first homer of the year.
  • Hedgey got his first pitching opportunity of the season. It’s his 9th career pitching appearance.
  • Good news, Cleveland only used three pitchers and one was Hedges.
