Guards Take Round One in the Battle of the C’s

It’s always weird when Tito’s back in town. He looks good, but I’m sad he’s not with Cleveland.

Round one of the Ohio Cup goes to Cleveland.

The Reds’ bullpen is horrible. But they’re very much like Cleveland which .,, yeah, they have Tito as manager, and he created the clubhouse ethos that has served Cleveland well. It also makes the Ohio Cup really scary now, because we’re up against someone who knows the Guards inside and out.

Basically it’s going to be a white knuckler every game and I really enjoy those games.

Game 1 (46) – LOST

• Bibee cannot get any run support, what the hell?
• José batted second, surprisingly, and did well.
• Bibee also walked in a run, which is bad.
• Coming back to within one is great, but having to do it via walks is less so.

Game 2 (47) – WON

• This was the first game since June 18 2022 that Kwan did not hit leadoff for a game in which he started.
• Kwan also looked better at the plate than he has all season (a walk, a hit, and a strikeout).
• José still batted second (with DeLauter third), and was walked once. Arguably, Tito’s the one guy I can’t fault for walking José.
• Yet another game where we wasted the ABS.
• The walk-in-a-run virus spread to Joey Cantillo, who was otherwise great.
• The Reds pitchers have a consistency problem.

Game 3 (48) – WON

• What a day to have no internet!
• Six home runs?!

Next up, the Guards go to Detroit and face the Skubal-less Tigers!
