Split Series With Sox – We Had to Win

·

Three baseball players in navy uniforms celebrate together on the infield, arms around each other after a play.

There are games you have to win, and series you have to win. These are those games.

While I know we won’t see José or Angel before the All Star Break, they came out to work with the team in warmups, and that warms my heart.

We started the series 1 game back. What happened next was a wild, four game, challenge.

Two walk off wins by the Guards? A rocket dinger to right by Rocchio and a dribbler up the middle for Watson? A nearly two hour rain delay right as the Sox got the lead? Accusations that the Cleveland grounds crew sabotaged the Sox?

In the end we split the series and the only ‘blowout’ was a game when they won by two runs. It was a solid showing, but we really needed to win.

  • What a wild ride!
  • We still have trouble with the bases loaded.
  • Eating back the runs, one at a time, worked.
  • Hammy noted that the White Sox have the fewest holds of any MLB team.
  • This is Rocchio’s second walk off win, and both came off the right field foul poll.

  • It looked like a good game, and then Big Rig gave up a two run home run and we had a rain delay.
  • Arias, who I have a gut feeling is lazy, made a wild catch.
  • Cleveland managed to catch up.
  • Watson got the walk off RBI for the win!

  • A Hog Homer in the 5th was a thing of beauty. The Hedges Offensive Renaissance continues.
  • Sadly that was our only run.
  • Hey, it wasn’t a one run game?
  • Ingle looked okay, even with an error.

  • Bibee had (another) rough day. He warmed up twice and that’s never easy.
  • We had some good plays and we only lost by one.
  • Today was also Larry Doby Day. If you don’t know who he is, he was the first African American player in the AL and he played for Cleveland.

It’s nearly time for a break with the All Star Game and Travis Bazzana and Parker Messick were selected by his fellow players, which is a hell of an honor for a couple kids in their first year! Cade Smith was also nominated by the players.

I didn’t expect anyone to get the pick from the Land this year, just given how our season was going. Kwan is nowhere near as good as last year, and José is obviously not available with his hand.

Anyway. Tomorrow is an off day, then it’s three at the Twins and three in Miami, and finally we get a real break!
