Nats Hammer Changeups, Guards for Memorial Day

·

The Nationals are having a surprisingly great season right now.

Entering the year, Washington was widely written off as a rebuilding squad destined for the bottom of the highly competitive NL East. Instead, they are hovering right around the .500 mark and sitting in third place, stubbornly refusing to fade away. The main catalyst has been a fearless, young offense that ranks near the very top of the league in runs scored and total hits, powered by the explosive breakout of shortstop CJ Abrams, who is among the league leaders in RBIs.

Their pitching staff has struggled mightily, sporting one of the highest ERAs in baseball. Yet, the Nats are finding ways to win anyway by out-slugging opponents, playing aggressive small ball, and flashing stellar defense. Just when everyone expected them to drop off, they went into Atlanta and shut out the powerhouse Braves, proving this gritty young core has a knack for defying expectations.

The series started out rough, and we also found out Sabrowski is out with elbow soreness. He’s having an MRI, but he’s also had two Tommy Johns and that’s never a good sign. The good news is the MRI was clear. The bad news is he’s still out for at least a week.

The good news is Logan T. Allen came up for a day and was lights out (two unearned runs) and Will Dion was amazing as well. Now if our starters could pick that up.

Really, the batting coach for the Nats is amazing. Whatever he did to teach them all how to spot and hammer changeups? Can he teach us? We’re not playing again this season.

Please?

  • My friend Karl and I argued if Bibee just doesn’t have his shit (Karl) or is tipping his pitches (me).
  • Regardless, holy fuck we got shelled. Bibee was tattooed for a ton of home runs!
  • But hey, Logan T. Allen returned and did rather well, all things considered.
  • I had a hell of a time picking a video for this game and I went with the really stupid tag out by Bazzana. No idea what the runner was thinking, there!

  • Another game where our starter can’t make it 4 innings.
  • Schneemann fucking stole a home run wi5 a perfectly timed leap.
  • Will Dion is a pocket hero, was absolutely amazing!
  • The Tarps Off boys are in the stands with their shirts off and I kind of adore them.

  • Big Rig and Hedgy save the day! Williams doesn’t rely on a changeup to get people out, like Cantillo and Bibee, and that worked well.
  • I was on a ferry and missed the whole game 😭

Tomorrow is a day off, but Friday we take on the Sox.
