Speaking of Games You Must Win, the Twins are only a couple games back.

Hammy is, again, off for the road trip. This time we got Pat Tabler, who is okay as an announcer but I prefer Kipnis and Candyman.

The refrain remains as it was, the Guards have got to start hitting. We were a little more aggressive, but basically it’s only Watson (who is amazing in center) who’s stealing and … we have got to distract their pitchers and fielders more. But I’ll have more on that to talk about during the ASG break.

There were two surprising things that happened in the first two games of the series:

  1. In game one we had miles of fielding fuckery with only one error. That inning cost us everything.
  2. In game two, our ‘pen gave up so many walks, we walked two men in — You just cannot do that!

Also I’m very surprised we’re winning by the long-ball right now.

  • I never like it when our only run is a home run.
  • We had a lot of fuckery with fielding in the 2nd inning that I just can’t explain.
  • We seem to have overcorrected with the not wasting challenges. Fry, the top of the ninth when you’re the second out would have been the right time.

  • Back to Back Jacks for three runs!
  • And then Cecconi collapsed for three runs.
  • Herrin took a direct hit from a comebacker … on his pitching arm elbow. It looked bad. Thankfully it’s not a break, ‘just’ a bone bruise.
  • Rocchio’s sac bunt was beautiful.
  • A walk off loss from (basically) too many walks. Ouch.

  • It’s so hard to get a no-hitter these days. In the 5th, the Twins pretty much attacked Big Rig to break it up. Which I get, but still.
  • Lefty batters for Cleveland seem to be doing well against Lefty pitchers, which defies common sense.
  • Kwan is back to not chasing out of the zone, thank god.

Now we’re off to Miami for the last three games before the break.

Hopefully José and Martínez (both of whom are taking live BP) will be back after the ASG.
