Bringing the Desert to Cleveland (aka we hit for shit)

·

Cleveland Guardians pitcher in a white uniform and red cap raises his right fist while holding his glove above his head on the mound, crowd blurred in the background.

It’s the trade deadline and I’m not surprise that we traded Bo Naylor. I’m surprised someone picked him. I guess the Brewers think they can fix his hitting and catch framing.

We picked up Craig Yoho, and he’s closer material so he’ll be a great setup man. I trust Cleveland to fix a pitcher.

Also my wife thinks the Bob Feller Act of Valor Award should have been called the Act of Feller Award. Folks, I can’t argue that.

Clutch hitting is not a word Cleveland knows, apparently. Honestly this was just crappy all around. I’m at the point where I wonder if we need to fire our entire hitting staff and start over.

Big Rig had a no hitter into the fifth of the last game, and the D-Backs tried to bunt on, which apparently the Guards felt was shitty.

The benches cleared as the rain delay was called, and I get the feeling it was more than just the bunt attempt, but Odor accusing the umps of delaying the rain call to favor Arizona.

  • Bibee’s pitching so runs are at a premium. Meaning we don’t get many.
  • Kwan is one of our only productive hitters. Think we’ll put him in cleanup?
  • Pitching and fielding collapsed in the 8th. Bibbe’s curse remains in place.

  • If I told you we had 8 runs and 14 hits, you’d think the Guards won. Hah.
  • A couple fielding miscues and a bullpen collapse killed us.
  • Bazanna did get a call overturned and got the 7th run but honestly the bright spots are few.
  • Kwan’s on a 19 game hitting streak.
  • Swapping Hoskins, who hit a homer in the first, for Manzardo was a choice.
  • Swapping Fry for Haplin was an excellent defensive choice.

  • Big Rig Gavin Williams was incredible. He’s an elite pitcher.
  • The umps not calling a run delay until after the D-Backs had the bases loaded was a choice. It made what could have been a half hour delay turn into one and a half. But hey, I went and did some gardening.
  • Kwan’s still hitting and getting on base a lot.
  • Yoho’s debut and my god, that’s changeup is disgusting! I love it! Can he pitch batting practice so our batters can learn how to hit one?

Tomorrow is an off day, so remember to ask Jobu to get us a batter who hits hard and consistently.

Do those even exist?

The Mets come to town on Tuesday. Think Lindor wants to come back?
