Battle for the Top: Guards Fail

·

Baseball fielder in a dark uniform lunges forward with glove extended to catch a ball on the outfield grass.

After last year, who in their right mind would have thought the White Sox would be battling it out with us for top of the AL Central!?

In 2024, they lost 121 games. In 2025, they (only) lost 102. It’s very weird when you think of that as an improvement. But this year, they’re one game behind us already, and doing quite well at home.

The Sox are 24-12 at home and 15-25 on the road… Sadly this is a home game for them. No Hammy on the radio, but Jason Kipnis is a delight.

The first game was fucking wild see-saw with some amazing plays. Second game was very close.

  • Big Rig struggled a bit but I can’t really say he had a bad game.
  • Herrin let up his third home run of the season.
  • Outfield had some amazing throws in today.
  • Watson got his first hit and RBI in one!
  • Bailey’s fucking ballet leap to score a run was beautiful.
  • Cleveland challenged the last play at the plate, and the ump said “Cleveland is challenging the whole thing.”
  • I can’t even be that mad we lost!

  • Watson got his first hit and RBI yesterday, and his first home run today!
  • Yet again, we lack clutch hitting.
  • Parker Messick was on fire.
  • Can we please get men home from third? Please?

  • A third totally fucking insane game
  • How many one-run games can we do!?
  • After a 2.5 hour rain delay, Bibee was great, and our bats weren’t as bad.
  • Kipnis in the booth correctly called out Hoskins for swinging too big all day long.
  • Bailey had a couple bad calls.
  • Smith gave up back to back jacks in the 10th for the tie and had to be bailed out for his 4th blown save all season.

Thank god tomorrow is an off day. I’ll be looking into how bad our pitching is with regards to home runs. After that, Seattle comes to Cleveland!
